El Gobierno de México expresó su optimismo este martes tras su réplica a los alegatos de 11 fabricantes de armas de Estados Unidos que demandó en 2021 por negligencia y fomentar el tráfico ilícito.
El canciller mexicano, Marcelo Ebrard, afirmó en un mensaje a medios que el Gobierno “presentó en tiempo y forma” la respuesta este lunes ante una corte en Boston, Massachusetts, contra los argumentos que los fabricantes de armas dieron en noviembre pasado para tumbar la demanda.
“Ya contestamos, ya respondimos, somos optimistas”, declaró el titular de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) a través de un video.
El secretario resaltó que la inédita demanda que México presentó en agosto pasado contra 11 fabricantes de armas estadounidenses cuenta con el respaldo de 14 procuradores estatales de ese país y 27 fiscales de distrito.
También, añadió, han recibido el apoyo de países como Antigua y Belice.
“Suponemos se van a ir sumando otros países del mundo argumentando que deben tomarse medidas para que no siga existiendo esta negligencia y este tráfico de armas. Yo alguna vez he dicho: es un río de armas hacia México”, expresó.
México atribuye a las armas gran parte de la violencia en el país, que registró 33,308 homicidios en 2021 después de los dos años más violentos de su historia, bajo el mandato de Andrés Manuel López Obrador, con 34,690 víctimas de asesinato en 2019 y 34,554 en 2020.

La demanda, recordó Marcelo Ebrard, acusa a los fabricantes de armas de “clara negligencia”, al “demostrar” que comercializan armas “que saben que van a dar a actividades ilícitas” o se diseñan para “ese tipo de mercados”, en referencia a los narcotraficantes.
Los fabricantes han buscado tumbar el recurso con el argumento del derecho a la portación en Estados Unidos o han intentado que la demanda cambie a Texas o Arizona, donde los jueces son más favorables a la cultura armamentista.
Pero en la réplica, el Gobierno mexicano argumentó “que el criterio de inmunidad en Estados Unidos, (donde) sí existe una legislación que les da inmunidad a estos fabricantes de armas, no se aplica en México”.

Además, defendió que el juicio sí debe realizarse en Massachusetts porque de ese estado han llegado cerca de 250,000 armas de 2011 a la fecha “por vías no legales”.
